"Come Catch'em In Klamath, California!"

2011 Klamath fishing report.

Good river flows and mild weather for the 2011 Summer/Fall Salmon and Steelhead season have produced conditions not seen in many years.

Historic runs of fish are predicted throughout the river system and it starts here in Klamath California.

Good counts of Salmon taken by off shore anglers only supports that our river fishing here will be excellent and is off to a good start already. Many ocean fish have been taken in the 40 lb. range.

Some details for Lower Klamath River fishing are: A large 3,950 sport fishing quota of adult Salmon starting August 15 through December 31 has been established by the Dept. of fish and game, with anglers allowed to take 2 adult Salmon over 22 inches and 1 jack Salmon under 22 inches per day.     Steelhead anglers can take 1 hatchery Trout or 1 hatchery Steelhead per day, and of coarse catch and release till your arms fall off. It is also required that all anglers have Salmon or Steelhead "report Cards" and those over 16 years old must have a fishing license for the dates they fish. Be sure to fill out the cards. Also note, be sure to get your license and punch cards before you get here. They don't sell them here in Klamath.

Some preferred ways to catch these fresh supercharged fish are
drifting roe bait, anchovies, night crawlers, Spinners, spoons, hard baits and by fly fishing. These tactics work well from a jet boat or from shore.

Late Fall fishing here is good. Don't be afraid of a little rain, October and November days can produce good fishing.

There are many places locally to shore fish, including the sand spit at the mouth of the Klamath to Klamath Glen, 5 miles up river. Local merchants will be glad to steer you in the right direction.

Klamath also offers a paved small aircraft runway in Klamath Glen with tie downs named "Mcbeth Field" for anglers who fly in. Its close to the fishing action and accommodations.

For the ultimate fishing experience, consider seeking a local professional guide from the guides page of the Klamath Chamber of Commerce website.

They will take you into the road-less wilderness areas up river by shallow water jet boat where the fishing action can be best.  Fishing in these wide open spaces will make you feel like you have the Klamath River to yourself.

Local experienced guides have provided years of great fishing memories for anglers from novice to expert. Reserve ahead for guided services on your  desired dates you will fish here.

Best of luck from all of us in Klamath, to those who have the opportunity to fish the Klamath in 2011.
